DESCRIPTION
Home town of Félix Leclerc,
he lived his first 14 years of his life, the district of La Tuque is at the same time a country town and a regional services centre.
The south limit of its territory is Rivière-aux-Rats located on the Saint-Maurice riverside.
The name of this hamlet serving as an ancient trade post for the Hudson Bay Company, probably comes from the translation of an amerindian toponym qualifying Rivière-aux-rats as a muskrat habitat.
Today, since Abitibi-Consolidated built a saw mill, this hamlet has become an important setting for forestry development. Moving up north on road 155, you get ot Carignan's hamlet and access road to Lac-à-Beauce. This area offers hydroplane tours.
A few kilometers north, we go by the Félix-Leclerc centre at the Parc des chutes
de la Petite rivière Bostonnais where you will find a tourist information office, interpretation centres and a great place for outdoor activities for visitors.
Finally, we reach downtown La Tuque whose main attractions are mentioned below.
At the north end, two private campgrounds offer many activities. An hydroplane base offers tours in the hinterland. An ATV and snowmobile path passing through the city gives access to different services and outlets for tourist.
